Destin Hurricane Outlook – October

Hurricane Outlook for Destin, Florida: October 8, 2024

As we enter October, it’s essential to stay informed about the hurricane outlook for our beautiful Destin, Florida. According to the latest updates from NOAA, we are currently monitoring Milton in the Atlantic and we do not expect impacts beyond breeze on Wednesday from the storm.

We are so thankful and blessed to have been spared from these storms impacting our area and are here to help our neighbors in any way we can. If you know someone needing to evacuate, if I do not have a property available, I will help find a place for people to stay.

Hurricane Milton: Hurrican Milton has developed into a extremely intense and strong Hurricane. While there will be no real impacts to Destin from Hurricane Milton, we are anxious and concerned greatly for our Florida Neighbors. “Milton is one of the strongest Hurricanes ever seen in the modern era. Strengthening wise, the wind field on Milton increased 3 times the speed of normal rapid intensification.” -Jim Cantore CBS Morning news.

While the strength has come down from a CAT 5 with 180 mph the wind field has continued to grow. The larger the wind field, the more surge that can be expected. Thankfully, the current speed of sustained winds is 145 mph and we can only pray that the storm continues to weaken before it hits. The storm surge if it hits Tampa Bay directly will be catastrophic. That area has not had a direct hit from a Hurricane since 1921 and currently they are still inundated with water and debris from Helene flooding. We hold our neighbors in our prayers and pray for their safety. We sincerely hope everyone advised to evacuate in the Tampa area does so.

ZAt 700 AM CDT (1200 UTC), the center of Hurricane Milton was located
near latitude 22.5 North, longitude 88.8 West. Milton is moving
toward the east-northeast near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn toward the
east-northeast and northeast is expected today and Wednesday. On
the forecast track, the center of Milton is forecast to move just
north of the Yucatan Peninsula today and approach the west coast of
the Florida Peninsula on Wednesday. The hurricane is forecast to
make landfall in Florida Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 145 mph (230 km/h) with higher
gusts. Milton is an extremely dangerous category 4 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. While fluctuations in
intensity are expected, Milton is forecast to remain an extremely
dangerous hurricane through landfall in Florida.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105
miles (165 km).

The minimum central pressure based on aircraft dropsonde data is
929 mb (27.43 inches).
